The Klinsmann Report – Weekly News Round-Up on the US Mens National Team
USSN takes a look around the web for latest news and opinion on the United States men’s national team. Here is a round up of the best of the web this week;
Bayern Munich president regrets hiring Klinsmann – Bayern president Uli Hoeness told a German newspaper this week that hiring Klinsmann was an expensive mistake. Given the current love affair between the U.S. media, fans, and just about every soccer loving person in the country its hard to imagine a scenario where US Soccer President Sunil Gulati has similar sentiments a year from now. With two games on the road in November against a very good side in France and a good squad in Slovenia it is not difficult to see the U.S. with just one win in seven games under Klinsmann. How long will the honeymoon last?
Klinsmann advises Brek Shea to be patient – Good advice. Too often young players go overseas too early and it stunts their growth. Just ask Freddy Adu and Jozy Altidore. With the quality of play in MLS there is no reason for Brek Shea to head to Europe just yet. After the Ecuador game Shea mentioned that he was aware of the talk about interest from big European clubs – his response was he was just concentrating on playing soccer. Hope he means that.
Gomez has not talked to Klinsmann – With the U.S. having scored just two goals in five games it is time to begin working others into the mix. Why not Herculez Gomez? He is scoring in bunches in Mexico’s first division and has a history of scoring on a regular basis for his club team.
Klinsmann son named to U-15 roster - Jonathan Klinsmann, son of U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann was named to the U.S. U-15 national team camp in California. Interestingly enough the youngster plays goalie.
U.S. falls to 34 in FIFA rankings – The fall continues. The latest FIFA rankings were released this week and the United States fell to number 34, the lowest ranking since 1997. The ranking means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things, as do the friendly losses that are mounting under Klinsmann. The goal is to qualify for the 2014 World Cup, not beat Ecuador in a friendly.
